Concurrent Workshop I �V Greater China Financial Cooperation

  • The workshop will focus on the financial markets integration in Greater China and the role of banking in the new economic order.
  • CEPA has promoted more business integration between Hong Kong and the Mainland. The MOU on Cross-Straits Banking will facilitate more business integration between Taiwan and the Mainland. What is the potential for further integration of the Greater China financial markets to complete the triangle and advance Asia's role in the new economic order?
  • An expert panel from business and finance will share their views and ideas from their different perspectives on what is on the path of increasing integration, and how this will impact the patterns and practices of cross-border investments, joint ventures and alliances, trade settlements and currency management for businesses in Greater China. The session also welcomes delegates to participate during the discussion by asking questions and sharing their views.

Concurrent Workshop II �V Investment Opportunities in Russia and the CIS

  • The workshop will focus on the investment opportunities in Russia as one of the emerging markets and the CIS countries, by exploring new investment opportunities, business and asset valuation in Russia and the CIS, and the most attractive sectors for foreign investment. The workshop will also share analysis of risks and hand on advice from experts.
  • Retail sector has been one of the most dynamic sectors of Russian economy over the past several years.  Before the crisis, many analysts view Russia as the most attractive market for retail development in the world. Panelists will discuss about the current situation in the industry.
  • The workshop will also touch on the laws and regulations in the M&A in Russia and the CIS which foreign investors should know about.

Concurrent Workshop III �V Developments in Bank Capital Instruments

  • As banks face more stringent capitalisation constraints, their regulatory capital structure will drive the returns available to shareholders but also present interesting investment opportunities across various tiers of capital - What will be the most attractive instruments from a risk-return standpoint and how do these instruments behave in stress scenarios? What protection do they create for depositors?
  • The workshop will focus on the evolution of the various instruments issued by financial institutions across the world, and their perception by rating agencies, regulators and the investor community.

Concurrent Workshop IV �V Hong Kong, the Islamic Gateway to China

  • The workshop will focus on the latest developments of Islamic finance in Hong Kong and other parts of the world, particularly in Islamic capital markets.
  • The Islamic financial industry has grown into a global business in recent years and is offering huge potential and opportunities. Fully committed to supporting the development of Islamic finance in Hong Kong, the HKSAR Government will explain its strategies and efforts in this regard during the workshop.
  • An overview of the most common sukuk structures in the market will also be provided in the workshop. In addition, panelists will explore how the Islamic financial industry resets itself in the aftermath of the financial crisis, and share their views on how Hong Kong could position itself as a premier Islamic gateway to China amid China��s rapid growth.
